1. Part of the full page border is flipped, what can I do?

Some Windows 95 programs are having problems with black and white Bitmap graphics mainly because the video is set to 256 color mode.  We suggest that you leave the video mode as it is and change the graphics to 256 color graphics.  The graphic will take up more room on the hard drive but will work fine.

2. Graphics look fine but part of the graphic is
flipped when I print it with Print Shop Deluxe?

We suggest that you change the graphic to a 256 color graphic with the Windows Paint program.  The graphic will take up more room on the hard drive but it should work fine.  Here is how you do it.  You will find Paint or Paintbrush in your Accessories Group open the paint program.  Select [File], select [Open], find the graphic you are having trouble with.  Now select [File], select [Save as] and change the graphic's name (I usually add a c to the name) then look for the [Save as file of type] box in the lower left of that screen.  Use the arrow down [V] button to find and select [265 Color BMP or Windows Bitmap]

3. Hardware Related Graphic Problems

Some programs just don't handle black and white bitmap graphics well.  Software, video drivers and printer drivers, that are not keeping up with the new technology, can cause graphic problems.  Bitmap Graphic abnormalities can some times be your first clue to an existing problem that you did not know you had or an upcoming hardware problem.  Graphics are more memory sensitive then text is. Graphics are also video sensitive.  You may have no problems with text, yet you can see video problems with the graphics.  Some times both graphics and text are affected

1. We had a noisy CPU cooling fan causing graphic problems our computer.
2. Dust bunnies in the computer can also cause graphic problems.
3. Cigarette smoke can cause problems with the internal workings of your computer showing up in your graphics.
4. Smoke from your fire place can also cause problems with the internal workings of your computer showing up in your graphics and floppy disk drives.
5. An out of date Video Driver can cause graphic anomalies.  You can call your monitor manufacture or check their site on the net for the latest drivers.

Why do some of my black and white graphics turn all black in some programs?
My guess is you are using Windows 95 and you have a color printer and you are in 256 color mode.  That is where we have seen this anomaly happen.  Open your Windows Paint program you will find it in the Accessories Group and it is called Paint find the graphic that is giving you the problem and save it as a BMP 256 color graphic.  The graphic will take up more space on the hard drive now but it will look fine and print fine.

4. Why do some of my black and white graphics
turn all black in some programs?

My guess is you are using Windows 95 and you have a color printer and you are in 256 color mode.  That is where we have seen this anomaly happen.  Open your Windows Paint program you will find it in the Accessories Group and it is called Paint find the graphic that is giving you the problem and save it as a BMP 256 color graphic.  The graphic will take up more space on the hard drive now but it will look fine and print fine.

5. What to do when a color printer that won't print
black and white graphics.

We first noticed this happening with the Print Shop program then later on in Quark Express.  We put our technical support team on it and here is what we found.   There was a conflict between the these programs and some of the new color printers.   The printer was asking for a color graphic and the program is sending a black and white graphic.  The printer runs out of memory looking for something that isn't there.

Here is how to fix the problem.  Simply change the graphic to a 256 color graphic.   Now there doesn't have to be any color in the picture.  You are just fooling the printer so it can print the graphics.  See instructions below.

6. How to change black and white graphics to
256 Color graphics, for coloring.

In Windows 3.1 Paintbrush program you must load the graphic and then choose [File] then choose [Save as], when the [Save as] screen comes up change the name of the graphic and look close in the lower left corner you will find the [Save as file type] box it has a small triangle down button [v] click on it and then an elevator bar find the color choices.   Windows bitmap BMP 256 color is normally the best one to choose, then [Save] the file giving it the new name.

When you return to the graphic screen in Windows 3.1 Paintbrush program nothing has changed, if you are in Windows 95 or 98 Paint you will see the color palette.  To get the color palette in the Windows 3.1 Paintbrush program reload the graphic by selecting [File] then select [Open] and remember that you renamed the graphic so look for the new name.  Select the graphic and select [OK] now you should see the color palette.  This should make it much easier to color the graphic now.  Have fun with your new graphics.

7. About Brands

The Brands in our packages are meant to be decorative and not for use as your own personal brand. Create your own brand. Create a brand that you can be proud of. Create one that is unique and special to you and your family. Register your Brand and be proud to hand it down to your children. Many Brands are lost by not keeping them registered. Brands are a personal thing and should remain that way.

I shall state to you what I was told many years ago about how these brands are read. "Brands should be read from bottom to top from left to right and lastly from out side to center." In the words of my grandfather Scott Winfield Taylor his brand was the Rocking SWT. You will find that one mixed in with one of the graphics. The first brand in this column is read the Bar X, Half Circle R Bar, the Circle K, J Hart, then the Circle B, the Rocking K Bar, the HF brand, Slide 37, C Diamond, the Looking Glass Ranch, the Rocking AW, the XT, Rocking R, the Flying TJK. If I remember right this is the Double Spur, and this brand is the Not T Ranch brand, then we come to the Box Bar D, then comes the Big AT, and lastly here is a sign of the Holidays No L, or NOEL.

I shall tell you what I know of the brands in the line above from left to right. The first is Moon Star, S Double Gable, the Flying Diamond, the Lazy 69, and the Running RW. The MV Longhorn Cattle Co., I believe this one is morning Ray, 3 Strikes, Lazy Triple 6, the Circle C, the Spur, Lazy Bar 7, the Rams Head, the Walking A, then there is M Flying Half Circle, the 101Ranch, the Circle G, The Crows Foot, Diamond D, and the Box T Ranch. Some of these brands are very old and some are still in use today. If you are looking for a brand for your ranch you can not copy one of these. Make up your own and the talk to the Department of Agricultural in your area they should be able to tell you how to register a new brand. A brand is the Ranchers Mark and Family Crest in America, just as the Coat of Arms is the Family Crest in Europe. Please Respect the Mark of the American Rancher.

I hope you liked the bit about the brands. Most of it was true some of the brands are truly very old. Others only lasted a few years the registration was lost through neglect and non use.  Ok, so I made up a brand or two they were my design so I took Artistic License as Poets take Poetic License. So lighten up have some fun with these graphics.   Brands are not the only fun thing in the Western Clipart Vol#1 package the portraits of the Gun Fighters might seem to be a little strange for this package. Well I am creating some old western fonts to make Wanted Posters with, and you will need those Gun Fighters to put on the Wanted Posters. I will Give you their names: Jesse James, Sam Bass William Bonney, Quantrill, The Dalton Gang, Grat, Emmet, & Bob. Then Johnny Ringo, John Wesley Hardin, Pancho Villa, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid, and the Apache Kid. Have fun with the graphics.
